Die casting is a special casting process. Compared with other casting processes, the basic characteristics of the die-casting process are filling and die-casting molds with metal liquids under high-speed and high-pressure conditions. During the mold filling process and rapid cooling of the metal mold, it is beneficial for the die-casting mold to form the injection mold, resulting in many casting defects. Some defects are inevitable, but some can be avoided. Some defects have no effect on the performance of die castings, so such die castings can still be used. However, some defects affect the performance of castings, such as die castings should be disposed of as waste.Therefore, quality is an important pillar of an enterprise's lifeline, an important condition for enhancing its competitiveness and economic efficiency. Therefore, improving the quality of castings is beneficial for enterprises to improve economic efficiency and reduce waste of resources.
The quality of die castings includes appearance quality, intrinsic quality and service quality. Appearance quality refers to surface roughness, surface quality, dimensional tolerance, geometric tolerance, deviation and other qualities, internal quality refers to chemical composition, physical and mechanical properties, metallographic structure and impurities and cracks in internal die castings. The quality of use refers to the characteristics of castings such as wear resistance and corrosion resistance, machinability and weldability, which can meet various work requirements and performance. The direct causes of defects can be divided into the following categories:
1. Unreasonable structural design of die casting mold
2. Improper use of die casting mold
3. Incorrect use of materials or improper melting processes
4. Incorrect use of die casting machine and die casting conditions
5. Improper operation manual during the die casting process
In addition, there are some defects caused by indirect reasons, including imperfect management like poor on-site quality management, and medical accidents or irresponsible operators.
